Month-long celebrations in September
Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15-10/15)
Observed annually from September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions and diverse cultures of the American-Latino community. Celebrations often include festivals, art shows, conferences and community gatherings. Hispanic Heritage Month also celebrates the independence days of several Latin American countries.
National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is an opportunity to end the stigma surrounding mental health for people experiencing suicidal thoughts or mental health challenges. Employers can create a supportive and productive environment for all employees by prioritizing mental health in the workplace.
Here are some ways you can support employees during National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month:
- Offer employee assistance programs (EAPs) to provide employees with confidential counseling and mental health support services.
- Provide training and education on mental health awareness.

National Preparedness Month

Labor Day

National Payroll Week
Celebrate that awesome "we just got paid" feeling! This week honors both the hardworking employees across America and the payroll pros who make sure our paychecks are spot on. Workplaces can observe by hosting financial literacy workshops, offering thanks to payroll teams or participating in programs to help educate young adults about their paychecks.

Patriot Day
On the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Patriot Day is a national observance in the U.S. that honors the memory of those who were killed. Patriot Day was first observed in 2002 and is considered a day of service in many states, counties and cities throughout the country.
401(k) Day
401(k) Day falls on the Friday after Labor Day, a perfect time to focus on retirement planning and preparation. It's a great day to check your retirement savings and ensure you're on track for the future. Your organization can participate by sharing educational materials, hosting a retirement planning workshop or encouraging employees to review their 401(k) plans.

Grandparents' Day
This holiday is a fantastic time to honor grandparents and "grandfriends" by connecting and making memories together. Workplaces can get involved by organizing intergenerational events, encouraging employees to share their favorite grandparent stories or even hosting a virtual family game night to celebrate the special bonds we share.

National Boss/Employee Exchange Day
National Boss/Employee Exchange Day is celebrated on the Monday after Labor Day, giving bosses and employees a chance to swap roles and understand each other's responsibilities. National Online Learning Day

National IT Professionals Day
IT teams are critical in keeping our networks and applications running smoothly, especially in hybrid and remote work environments. Take some time on National IT Professionals Day to show appreciation to the IT professionals in your organization.
National Voter Registration Day
National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan holiday to create awareness of voter registration opportunities. The official 2026 campaign notes that partners have helped more than 6 million Americans register or update their information since the holiday’s founding in 2012.
On September 15, join the push to get as many people registered as possible. Workplaces can observe by sharing information on how to register, reminding employees to check their voter status or promoting nonpartisan civic participation resources.

National Working Parents’ Day

Stepfamily Day
We all know that families come in all shapes and sizes. Today, blended families are becoming more common. This day celebrates stepfamilies, or “bonus” families as some call them.
September 21
Yom Kippur*
Yom Kippur is one of the two High Holy Days in the Jewish faith, and it marks the end of a period of introspection and repentance that follows Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Many celebrate by fasting for 25 hours and participating in a special religious service. This year, Yom Kippur begins on the evening of Sunday, September 20 and ends on the evening of Monday, September 21.

International Week of the Deaf
International Week of the Deaf is an annual celebration organized by the World Federation of the Deaf. This week is dedicated to raising awareness about the Deaf Community and promoting their human rights. The goal is to unite and advocate for the needs of the Deaf Community through coordinated global mobilization and media coverage.

World Car-Free Day
World Car-Free Day is celebrated in cities worldwide, encouraging walking and cycling instead of driving for a day. Before World Car-Free Day, consider encouraging your team to explore alternative transportation methods that could reduce their carbon footprints.
American Business Women's Day
September 22 is the founding date of the American Business Women's Association, which aims to bring together women of diverse occupations and provide them with opportunities to grow personally and professionally. American Business Women’s Day commemorates the contributions of American working women and women business owners and serves to celebrate their achievements.
Autumnal Equinox
The Autumnal Equinox is the official start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere, when day and night are roughly balanced as the Sun crosses the equator. In 2026, it falls on September 22 in the United States, marking the end of summer’s heat and the beginning of cozy sweater weather! Sukkot*
Sukkot is a joyful Jewish festival where families build and dwell in sukkahs (temporary huts) to remember the Israelites' journey out of Egypt. It's a week of delicious meals, ceremonial prayers and spending quality time in these symbolic structures. At work, you can join in by wishing Jewish colleagues "Chag Sameach" (Happy Holiday) and learning more about the significance of Sukkot to show support and appreciation for the tradition. In 2026, Sukkot begins at sundown on Friday, September 25 and ends at nightfall on Friday, October 2.
