Month-long celebrations in July

Disability Pride Month

Disability Pride Month is an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the disabled community. This is a chance to celebrate the joy and pride that disabled people bring to their communities and to show how much we value and celebrate this vibrant part of society.

French-American Heritage Month

Bonjour! French-American Heritage Month is a fantastic time to reflect on the French and American people's shared culture, history and experiences. French is still spoken in many places throughout the United States, and French culture can be seen in cuisine, fashion and architecture.

Social Wellness Month

Social wellness is an integral part of overall wellness, as it helps us to form meaningful connections with those around us. Having a solid support system of friends, family and neighbors can be invaluable in times of need. And that support helps us maintain a sense of belonging.

Here are some tips that can help your team build positive social habits:

  • Make time for meaningful conversations with friends and family.
  • Prioritize making new connections with people in your community.
  • Show gratitude and appreciation to those around you.
  • Show empathy and understanding, even when you don’t agree with someone.
  • Participate in activities or groups that bring you joy.

Additional July DEI holidays

July 4

Independence Day

Also known as the Fourth of July, Independence Day is celebrated as the birth of American Independence. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later (July 4), the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the 13 colonies.

July 5

National Workaholics Day

On National Workaholics Day, it’s important to remember that work addiction can devastate all aspects of life. Working hard is always commendable, but all employees must prioritize their wellbeing by creating healthy boundaries around work.

July 12

National Simplicity Day

National Simplicity Day is an excellent reminder of the importance of living a simpler life. It's a beautiful time to take a step back and refocus on the things that truly matter, declutter our lives and recognize that sometimes less is more.

Malala Day

This is a celebration of Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafazi, who stood up to the Taliban and fought for her right to an education. The holiday falls on her birthday.

July 15

National Give Something Away Day

It’s only fitting that this day follows National Simplicity Day. National Give Something Away Day is a perfect opportunity to share our abundance with those in need. Whether it’s food, clothing or any other item that can bring comfort, donating to a local charity or giving directly to an individual can positively impact someone’s life.

July 16

Day of Ashura

This significant day in the Islamic calendar commemorates historical events and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. It's a time for reflection, fasting and performing good deeds. Workplaces can observe Ashura by acknowledging the significance of the day for Muslim colleagues, allowing flexible schedules for those who wish to fast and promoting acts of kindness and charity.

July 25

National Intern Day

Celebrate National Intern Day by recognizing the hard-working interns who bring fresh perspectives and boundless energy to your workplace. Whether they’re making coffee runs or tackling major projects, interns deserve a shout-out for their contributions.

Workplaces can observe this fun day by hosting an award ceremony with quirky categories like "Master of Multitasking" or "Email Ninja." Arrange a lunch with mentors to offer interns a blend of food and wisdom. Give them a chance to lead a mini project and spotlight their achievements on social media with #NationalInternDay to show them how much they’re appreciated!

July 26

ADA Day

July 26, 2023, marks the 33rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This law provides many protections and services to those with disabilities. The ADA made it illegal to discriminate against individuals with disabilities in the workplace and improved access to goods, services and communications for those with disabilities. While we still have work to do, the ADA led to the removal of barriers many individuals with disabilities face daily, and it is worth celebrating.

July 28

Parents’ Day

The fourth Sunday in July is set aside to recognize all the hard work of parents, guardians and caregivers for their hard work and role in building a stronger society by raising our children.

World Conservation Day

World Conservation Day aims to raise awareness around our use of natural resources - like water - and invites us to look for ways we can conserve our natural resources.

July 30

International Day of Friendship

International Day of Friendship is celebrated every July 30th! It's the perfect excuse to plan a fun day with friends or reconnect with old pals via phone call, text, video chat or even a handwritten letter.

Workplaces can get in on the fun by organizing team-building activities, hosting a "Friendship Lunch" or encouraging employees to send appreciation notes to their coworkers.

National Whistleblower Day

National Whistleblower Day commemorates the courage of the ten whistleblowers who reported wrongdoing and abuses by a superior officer in the Continental Navy in 1778. This pivotal moment in history laid the foundation for the first whistleblower law, and it is crucial to recognize the tremendous contributions that whistleblowers throughout time have made in preserving American democracy and the rule of law.
