Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) training is an increasingly important aspect of corporate culture as companies recognize the value of a diverse workforce. By providing employees with the tools and knowledge to understand and appreciate differences in race, gender, sexuality and other identities, companies can foster a more inclusive and productive work environment.

The opportunity:

Credera wanted to bring a range of important DEI+B topics and conversations to their leadership team to have them learn from unique experts and each other before rolling out these learning experiences to the entire company. Topics of interest included implicit bias, microaggressions, gender identity, race, LGBTQ+ and engaging in conversations when you are not the expert.

The solution:

A comprehensive DEI curriculum to employer individual and group learning.

Working with Electives, Credera planned a series of classes that addressed a variety of DEIB topics to support individual and group learning.

Participants in the Credera DEI learning series gained a wide range of valuable insights, tools and knowledge. They explored the concept of implicit bias and its impact on daily life, learning to identify and address it. They also connected with colleagues through crafting and sharing personal stories, building empathy and understanding across diverse identities.

The DEI series provided actionable strategies for navigating difficult conversations, creating space to discuss social issues like race and unconscious bias, and learning how to be an ally for transgender and non-binary individuals. Participants learned how to build LGBTQ communities beyond Pride Month and how to address hidden barriers and lagging confidence. They gained a deeper understanding of racism and its surprising manifestations, plus the psychological underpinnings of why it’s so difficult to eradicate racism. Through guided presentations, exercises, role play and facilitated conversations, participants built the muscles to address complex topics and gained the extraordinary relief of finally having an open dialogue about a subject that is both taboo and omnipresent in all of our lives.

The results:

Employee feedback reveals the success of Credera’s DEI learning series.

Employee feedback revealed that the DEI learning series was a resounding success, empowering individuals and promoting group learning. Participants found the modules thought-provoking and appreciated the opportunity to converse openly with their colleagues. Many expressed gratitude that Credera is engaging in these critical discussions and felt better equipped to speak out in moments that matter for their teams, colleagues and friends.

The DEI learning series also helped cultivate a sense of community and support, with employees recognizing the importance of allyship and the ongoing work needed to create a more inclusive workplace. Overall, the comments demonstrate the positive impact of the DEI learning series and its potential to drive meaningful change within the company.

Participant feedback included:

  • “I will listen more and feel empowered and equipped to speak out in moments that matter for my colleagues and friends.”
  • “I am so grateful we are doing this at Credera.”
  • “I think one of the most important lessons is that you don’t need to be perfect today, but you should be working on being a better accomplice.”
