Mariabrisa Oliveres, the sage Chief People Officer at Owkin, dropped some wisdom in a recent People Developing People interview. Mariabrisa says HR is there to ask the big questions:
🧭 Where are we going?
🛶 How are we going to get there?
🧰 Do we have what we need?
🧗♂️ Are we challenging ourselves enough?
After all, HR leaders are expected to have all the answers.
That’s why Mariabrisa also encourages HR leaders to be kind to themselves and to build a network of other leaders they can call for support.

Ironically, even for People leaders, it’s easy to forget the “people” part in the tech-addicted race for efficiency. Mariabrisa reminds us that, especially for learning, the human element needs to be at the center:
Learning is about changing mindsets. It’s about learning new behaviors or new skills. And for that to be embedded, it requires a change in the human.
