AI is quickly becoming a company-wide priority. In most organizations, however, there’s a hidden assumption sabotaging their adoption efforts: “Managers will figure it out.”

- Reframe it: managers are now responsible for a team that includes AI outputs, not just people.
9. Using weak success metrics
Logins ≠ impact.
Measure:

- Quality improvement
- Error rates
- Customer outcomes
- Revenue growth
- Capacity created
- Time saved
- Manager confidence
- Headcount you didn’t need to add
10. Letting every manager set their own standards
Inconsistency creates confusion and unfairness.
Avoid it:
- Set company-wide minimum standards
- Share common workflows
- Create a manager community of practice
- Publish repeatable patterns
11. Ignoring trust and psychological safety
If employees don’t trust the intent, adoption will fail.
Managers should clearly communicate:
- Why AI is being introduced
- What it will and won’t be used for
- Where humans remain accountable
- What happens when something goes wrong… and that it's okay
- How performance will be evaluated
12. Starting too big
“AI transformation” is too abstract to act on.

What this comes down to
AI adoption stalls when managers are handed a new responsibility without the clarity, support or structure to act on it. Technology isn't the problem.
Give managers what they need to do the job: clear priorities, defined decision rights, real examples and the time to put it into practice. Hold them accountable. Then get out of the way.
