What you will learn:
Who is Family? What makes a Family? Join Monica as she shares her stories, struggles, and lessons learned from both creating family and becoming and being a parent to three very different kids (now mostly adults) in the context of an inter-racial, lesbian relationship. You will hear about her sensitive and creative cisgender, hetero son, her fabulously queer and brilliant trans child, and her loving, capable, and stubborn cisgender, bi daughter.
Society continually changes and the concept of family changes with it. Monica will take you on a brief journey through the evolution and expansion of Family. Based on the idea that all humans are hardwired for social connection--it is a biological need and our strongest desire--Monica will challenge you think about your own family connections and invite a robust discussion around ways we can all expand and strengthen our family ties. As always, Monica's focus is on healthy relationships; in this case offering ways to enhance our capacities to respond to the ever-changing dynamics of human relationships.
