What you will learn:
We all have some form of privilege in this world; It’s how we use it that creates impact and sustainable change. In this Elective, Dr. Cherise Bernard leads the exploration of privilege and identity to grow your allyship muscles in the workplace. In this 120-minute course, participants will walk through various social identities within the dynamics of dominance and marginalization, such as age, race/ethnicity and gender identity to establish understanding around how these identities affect how people show up every day. We then dig deeper into language and specifically how our respective identities inform how we communicate.
Let’s normalize our understanding of privilege and how to talk about it. This Elective, which may seem scary at first, is intentionally designed to create more fluency around a topic that is normally perceived as taboo. By the end, participants will feel more confident to discuss these topics in an authentic way and exercise allyship more impactfully.
