What you will learn:

Known as the Island of Enchantment, Puerto Rico is a tiny island with huge significance in the Caribbean and the United States. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated U.S. territory or commonwealth, which puts the country in a precarious position when it comes to governance and civil rights and liberties. Misinformation and misunderstanding complicate the ability to keep up with and support the Island’s fight for sovereignty--whether it’s statehood or independence.

In this Elective, we will piece some of the puzzle pieces together. Participants will walk away with:
  • Clarity on Puerto Rico’s status, historical and political context
  • A greater appreciation for Puerto Rican heritage and culture and how it shows up in the U.S.
  • Tips on how to support Puerto Rico, right from where you are
This Elective is ideal for leaders and contributors of all levels who are curious and seek to deepen their understanding of Puerto Rico.
