The future of the workforce is ever-changing and LGBTQIA+ identification has been rapidly increasing. According to the 2020 poll, 1 out of 6 Generation Z adults had identified as LGBTQIA+. Out of aggregated survey results, 43% LGBT+ individuals have experienced some form of discrimination on the job, 90% of transgender employees have encountered some form of harassment or mistreatment, and 34% of LGBT employees have left a job due to treatment by their employer. Companies not only feel the cultural shifts, but also recognize the importance of fostering inclusive spaces.

In this training, we aim to help you get ahead by unpacking gender, sexual orientation, and the importance of identity. Using openness, interactive activities, and data-based research, we aim to create an engaging space where participants can have open and honest conversations, learn best practices, and walk away with the tools they need to build awareness and minimize bias.

About the instructor:

Beckham Duffy is a holder of a master's degree in Human Resource Management and dual bachelor’s degrees in Visual Art and Women & Gender Studies. He has worked across multiple industries and functions, including DE&I, Learning & Organizational Development, Employment Relations, Data Analytics, and Talent Acquisition Operations. Although he has worked primarily within human resources, his passion lies within diversity, equity, and inclusion through educating and speaking on DEI, intersectionality, and LGBTQIA+ topics.

Beckham conducted a TEDx Talk on the topic of Transformation & Growth: What it Means to be Human. He expands on the complexities of having an intersectional identity, navigating society as a queer, adopted, person of color and opens the floor for conversation on the importance of identity and building inclusive spaces.

Since then, he has conducted numerous corporate talks and facilitations on gender and the workplace, LGBTQIA+ laws and protections, DEI recruitment strategies and HR best practices, bias trainings, and how companies can take actionable steps to create inclusive cultures. He works towards creating spaces where people can feel that all their identities – not just their most defining identity - are upheld, respected, and celebrated.
