About the instructor:
Sophia Koehler-Derrick (she/her) is a former educator turned educational consultant with over 8 years of experience serving in New York City public schools. As a Social-Emotional Learning Coach/Teacher in Brooklyn, she curated the conditions for her school community to connect authentically & compassionately.
As a consultant, Sophia is passionate about providing research-based social-emotional tools and building psychologically safe spaces to positively impact workplace communities and their internal cultures. Her expertise Is creating calm within high-stress environments (imagine all your middle school feels X 30) to every room where she facilitates.
Sophia holds a master’s degree in Special Education from Brooklyn College. She was Teach for America’s 2019 Spotlight Teacher and is a Certified Meditation Teacher from Nalanda Institute For Contemplative Science. She founded her Educational Consulting Company, Internal Light LLC, in 2019 and has since had the opportunity to work with teams globally from the corporate and nonprofit sectors.
Sophia is a proud New York City transplant who is also Midwest Certified “Indiana-Nice.” She meditates (every-damn-day), drinks her whiskey neat (always), and is humbled by how her stubbornness is no match for that of her toddler son (most days).
